Challenges facing the U.K. construction sector include skills shortages and increasing material costs. These circumstances are driving innovation, as the industry adopts new technology and techniques to meet demand and minimise cost, whilst achieving sustainability targets. Construction is now seeing innovations and initiatives to drive change in the areas of pre-manufacture, information & technology, sustainability and new construction methods.
The report provides independent insight about innovation in the construction supply chain. Providing indicators on attitude and take-up by the Construction Decision Making Unit.
This is the sixth chapter of this report, looking at Augmented Reality.
Augmented Reality blends virtual information with the real world through smart glass allowing people to be aware of their surroundings. This format can be used on site for planning work, quality management, safety inspection as well as providing installation or maintenance information.
This report has been prepared using the researchers’ unique expertise in the UK construction sector. The report references extensive desk research, exploring the forms of innovation being developed in the construction industry. Also, a number of building product manufacturers, representing a cross section of activities, were consulted to understand what they considered important. Detailed telephone interviews with 140 key construction decision makers were conducted. These represented medium to larger organisations in housebuilding, architecture, engineering, main contracting and specialist contracting.
This is the sixth chapter of this report, looking at Augmented Reality.
